11th Annual Bethabara Highland Games
May 14, 2011 - Winston-Salem, North Carolina
The Bethabara Highland Games (NC) was held on May 14, 2011. It was a perfect Scottish day, overcast skies and a light rain on and off all day. There were fifteen clan tents participating and Clan Wallace at the end of the day won Best Clan Tent. This is the second year in a row that Clan Wallace has been selected for this honor. Russ and Marcia Harper hosted the Clan Wallace tent.
The Highland Games at Historic Bethabara Park are held to pay respect to the heritage of the early Scots and Scots-Irish pioneers who helped and guided the Moravians in their settlement of the Wachovia tract. This game is free and open for the enjoyment of the public. We had seven Wallaces in the parade of Tartan. They saved the best for last as the Wallaces were the last to take the field and the largest clan marching.
After the games a cook out was held at the home of Russ and Marcia Harper as a thank you for all that came out and enjoyed the day with us, especially Frank Randall and Sue Waller, Aaron Harper and Kim and Bella Fragola.

54th Grandfather Mountain Highland Games
July 9-12, 2009 - Linville, North Carolina

The Clan Wallace tent, hosted by Russ & Marcia Harper was awarded the Clan of Excellence award at the 54th annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games July 9th - 12th in Linville North Carolina.
The weekend started out foggy on Thursday night for the calling of the clans. The glare of the torches and the voices in the mist were the only evidence that the calling took place. Friday and Saturday were two of the busiest days ever on top of Grandfather Mountain.
In addition to the many Wallace's, Russ and Marcia also played host to Clan Crawford. Terry and Nancy Crawford who hosted a tent last year were unable to make the commitment for the full weekend but were able to come by Saturday. It was a good thing that we had a double tent this year as the tents were overflowing.

There were many Wallace's and Crawford's that were able to join us for at least some part of the weekend. Among them were Charlie and Karen Wallace, and daughter Laura (GA), Frank and Sue Randall, Craig and Theresa Wallace, Nelson Long, Glen Wolfe (Ohio), Judy Wallace Moore (VA), William Wallace (SC), Carol Wallace Bailey, John Wallace, Nancy Wallace Hatton (TN) along with so many of their mates and friends it is just impossible to get them all listed.
Sunday started out very overcast and blustery for the parade of Tartans. Leading the Clan Wallace contingent was Devon Buchanan, daughter of the new Clan Buchanan president Ken whose mother was a Wallace. Devon marches with Clan Buchanan then comes to the back of the line and dons a Wallace kilt and marches again.
After the parade of Tartans the Grandfather Mountain Pipe Band played as we were presented the Clan of Excellence Award. This is a very special honor for us and Clan Wallace, to be selected best clan out of the 87 clans that were represented.
To top this year we have to come up with something new and different, so come join us and see what we have planned. Our tent location will be prime and we will lead the parade of tartans. We hope you can make it for the 55th annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games.
On a sad note, Saturday night we lost one of our Life members, Kate Rankin of Summerfield NC. She, her kids and extended family had become a fixture around the Wallace tent at Grandfather. She will be sorely missed.
